Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the physiological reactions of schizophrenic patients to emotional stimuli.

Methods: Included were fifteen schizophrenic patients(7 males, 8 females) and fifteen others(7 males, 8 females). Through preliminary experiments, five film clips had been chosen as an experimental stimulus. During the period when subjects were watching the movie clip, we measured their electrodermal activity(EDA), electrocardiogram(ECG), electromyography(EMG) and asked them to rate the experienced emotion for themselves after watching each movie.

Results: In the physiologic response analysis, we also found that there were differences between the two groups in response to emotional stimuli depending on the modalities. The normal group show significantly increased corrugator responses to two stimuli(anger, disgust) and respiration responses to two stimuli(disgust, fear) as compared to the schizophrenia. But the respiration responses to humor in schizophrenia was increased more than the normal group.
Conclusion: This study shows that there is a difference between the schizophrenia group and the non-schizophrenic group in an emotional physiologic response to each discriminated emotion.
